ARLINGTON, TEXAS – General Motors announced it will start construction on a new $200 million stamping facility in Arlington, Texas. This new facility will produce stamping components for a number of next-generation, full-size SUVs, including the Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade.
GM said the new facility will reduce logistics costs by $40 million per year and will go on-line in 2013. The company said that currently several parts come from more than 1,000 miles away, and the new facility will help eliminate the costs associated with transporting those parts.
In addition, the new facility will create approximately 180 jobs, the automaker stated. GM is building the new facility in addition to a $331 million investment to purchase tooling and equipment, and expand the Arlington Assembly Plant, which GM announced in May 2011.
