WASHINGTON - Autocar is recalling nearly 2,000 MY 2008-2009 ACX heavy-duty Class 8 trucks because of a problem with the steering gear mounting.

The trucks' steering gear mounting bracket may wear out and over time cause cracks that could result in movement of the steering gear mounted to that bracket. This poses a safety risk.

The recall is expected to begin this week, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration said.

Autocar, based in Hagerstown, Ind., can be reached at (765) 489-5499.
