COLUMBIA, SC - An insurance company is paying nearly $5 million to settle a case of a North Carolina driver who struck and killed two bicyclists in South Carolina while driving a company vehicle, according to The State.

The State reported that a federal judge Feb. 4 approved the settlement for the family of one of the victims. In December, a Lancaster County judge approved a $2.5 million settlement in state civil court for the death of the other cyclist, reported TMCnet.com.

The driver, Sharon King of Greensboro, N.C., was reported to have been allegedly talking on her cell phone prior to the accident, reported the State. She was charged with reckless homicide and later pleaded guilty to reckless driving, according to the State.

King's employer was not identified.
