2008 BMW 650i Convertible Features Powerful Engine
MUNICH, GERMANY – The 2008 BMW 650i convertible (and coupe) in 2008, with a new 4.8L, 32-valve V-8 with variable valve timing and electronic fuel injection, generates 360 horsepower and cranks out a like amount in pound-feet of torque for a sizable increase over its predecessors. The powerful engine mates to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic with adaptive control, sport, and manual controls and steering wheel mounted paddles, according to www.sfgate.com.
The wheelbase and length of the 650i ragtop and coupe is the same as the 2004 645Ci models. The contemporary design was beautiful though functional with curvaceous and sweeping character lines. The 645Ci convertible’s interior employed both analog and digital gauges, while the center stack controls were surrounded by a highly-polished light or dark, burled wood panel.
Aside from the obvious difference in top configuration, the convertible differs from the coupe, in that it features additional front and rear diagonal braces, a specific front subframe, and thicker front thrust plate. There are also added reinforcements to the side sills and a strengthened lower body, B-pillar attachment, and lower body structural stiffening. The ultra-strong windshield frame and BMW’s Rollover Protection System provide added safety and security in the event of misfortune resulting from a potential driver error.
In addition to the extra 35 horsepower and 30 additional pound-feet of torque, the 2008 650i convertible sports new wheels and is 0.4 seconds faster from 0 to 60 mph with its enhanced aerodynamics. The latest iteration 6 Series fresh air tourer tips the scales at 88 pounds more than its predecessor.
