Subaru Reports Increased June Sales

CHERRY HILL, NJ – Subaru of America, Inc. reported that the company had another month of increased sales in June. The 2009 Subaru Forester continues its strong sales start, up 41 percent over the same period last year, while the Subaru Legacy maintains its increase in sales, up 19 percent over the same period last year.

"In a turbulent market, Subaru has seen continued growth," said Tim Colbeck, vice president of sales for Subaru of America. "The market is clearly undergoing some major shifts as gas prices start to affect buying behavior. With gas at over $4 a gallon, consumers are actively looking for more efficient vehicles without sacrificing safety and versatility. Our vehicles score high marks in these areas, and so Subaru has been able to increase market share every month in 2008."

Migration to 4-Cylinder Engines Continues with 2010-MY Ordering

By Mike Antich
The ongoing volatility of gasoline prices has prompted a growing number of fleets to transition to four-cylinder engines. This transition started in the 2008-MY and accelerated with 2009-MY ordering, when gas prices surpassed $4 per gallon in the summer of 2008. Early indications are that the migration to four-cylinder engines will continue with 2010-MY ordering. We have already seen glimpses of this trend in the 2010 RFPs submitted to major OEMs.
