WESTCHESTER, Ill. --- Insurance Auto Auctions Inc., a leader in automotive total loss and specialty salvage services in North America, announced the acquisition of Joe Horisk’s Salvage Pool in Newcastle, Del.

The acquisition extends IAA's footprint in the Northeast and provides additional regional coverage to IAA's vehicle providers. The facility features a yard capacity of over 2,000 vehicles and will provide buyers with greater overall product selection from which to purchase vehicles, either in person at the live auction or soon through I-bid LIVEsm.

"We are pleased to add the Newcastle auction facility and look forward to providing auction services there that will cover the entire state of Delaware and the surrounding communities in Pennsylvania and Maryland," said Tom O’Brien, president and CEO of IAA. "This acquisition is a result of our ongoing effort to expand our presence in markets where we can better serve the needs of our vehicle providers."

Insurance Auto Auctions is a leading automotive total-loss and specialty salvage remarketer in North America. The company has 137 sites across the United States, along with 12 in Canada that operate under the Impact Auto Auctions brand.

Migration to 4-Cylinder Engines Continues with 2010-MY Ordering

By Mike Antich
The ongoing volatility of gasoline prices has prompted a growing number of fleets to transition to four-cylinder engines. This transition started in the 2008-MY and accelerated with 2009-MY ordering, when gas prices surpassed $4 per gallon in the summer of 2008. Early indications are that the migration to four-cylinder engines will continue with 2010-MY ordering. We have already seen glimpses of this trend in the 2010 RFPs submitted to major OEMs.
