Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. Acquires Specialty Risk

ITASCA, Ill. --- Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. has acquired Specialty Risk Inc. of Liberty, Mo. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Established in 1994, Specialty Risk Inc. is a retail insurance broker providing risk management and commercial property/casualty insurance products and services to clients throughout North America. The company specializes in occupational accident insurance, corporate and fleet workers compensation, physical damage and non-trucking liability insurance for independent contractors, fleet and company drivers, and motor carriers in the transportation field.

Jamie Krisman and her associates will continue to operate in their current location under the direction of Michael Henthorn, South Central regional manager of Gallagher's retail property/casualty brokerage operation.

"Our acquisition program is designed to help us grow geographically and add to our sales and service capabilities," said J. Patrick Gallagher Jr., chairman, president and CEO. "Specialty Risk certainly has these characteristics. With over 14 years of transportation industry experience, they will be an excellent addition to our niche strategy."

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., an international insurance brokerage and risk management services firm, is headquartered in Itasca, Ill. It has operations in 13 countries and does business in more than 100 countries around the world through a network of correspondent brokers and consultants.

Migration to 4-Cylinder Engines Continues with 2010-MY Ordering

The ongoing volatility of gasoline prices has prompted a growing number of fleets to transition to four-cylinder engines. This transition started in the 2008-MY and accelerated with 2009-MY ordering, when gas prices surpassed $4 per gallon in the summer of 2008. Early indications are that the migration to four-cylinder engines will continue with 2010-MY ordering. We have already seen glimpses of this trend in the 2010 RFPs submitted to major OEMs.
