IARA 2008 Summer Roundtable

DALLAS – IARA will hold its 2008 Summer Roundtable on August 19-21 at the Hyatt Regency Downtown in Dallas, Texas.

This year’s theme is “Economics in the Remarketing Industry" and there are plans to include an all attendee evening event at the Texas Rangers stadium for dinner and a ballgame.

Driver, Technician, and Fuel Handler Safety Training for LNG Powered Vehicles

ANAHEIM, CA - This one-day course sponsored by the Natural Gas Vehicle Institute (NGVi)is devoted to training drivers, technicians and fuel handlers on safe driving, fueling and operating practices of today's liquefied natural gas (LNG) vehicles. The training will be held at the Doubletree Hotel Anaheim/Orange County, Calif.

The course will deliver all the information necessary to insure that your fleet powered by LNG is driven, fueled and maintained in a facility to meet or exceed current safety standards. You will also learn the safety features of the LNG fuel storage and delivery system. So, whether you are a driver, technician or fuel handler, or whether you are a manager or trainer for these employees, you will come away having learned all this information. Each attendee receives a manual and a certificate of completion.Among other things attendees will learn:

  • Properties of LNG
  • LNG Fueling Equipment and Safety Practices
  • LNG Safety Equipment
  • LNG Station Safety Evaluation
  • LNG Vehicle Technology
  • Safe Fueling and De-fueling of a LNG Vehicle

Rising Commodity Prices Threaten to Increase Truck Prices

The high cost of raw materials, in addition to the high cost of fuel, is starting to make a financial impact on fleets by increasing costs for truck chassis, bodies, trailers, liftgates, and other upfit equipment. On July 9, Navistar announced that rising commodity costs have forced the company to increase prices of International truck models. Is this another in a series of commodity-related price increases that we will see from other OEMs, upfitters, and trailer manufacturers?

Bleak New-Vehicle Sales to Usher a Strong Used-Vehicle Market

Today's new-vehicle market will generate (ultimately) the used-vehicle market of tomorrow. If there is a decrease in new-vehicle sales, there will be a corresponding decrease in the future number of used vehicles in the marketplace. Even though there is a lot of nervousness in the market, no one is anticipating a dramatic decrease in new-vehicle commercial fleet orders for the 2009 model-year. However, the same cannot be said for the retail new-vehicle market.
