WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Mercedes-Benz is recalling 352 MY 2009 G-Class G550 SUVs because of a problem with the fuel system.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the fuel line quick connectors located under the vehicle away from the engine compartment may not have been connected properly on the assembly line. They may not be completely seated in the connection. In the event of a frontal crash, the fuel pump would no longer function. However, a partial dislocation of the line poses the risk of fuel loss from the line at the quick connector. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.

Dealers will check the connection of the fuel line quick connectors and install a new clamp to ensure that the quick connectors have a secure connection. The remedy will be performed free of charge.

This safety recall campaign is set to begin in January. Vehicle owners with any questions can reach Mercedes-Benz at (800) 367-6372.
