WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Volvo Cars is recalling more than 8,000 MY 2010 XC60 vehicles because of an issue related to the driver's side seatbelt.

In certain driver's side impacts, the driver's seat side cover panel runs the risk of releasing the attachment of the seatbelt to the seat frame. If this condition occurs during a crash, the seatbelt may fail to properly restrain the occupant, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Dealers will modify the inside of the driver's seat side cover panel free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before Dec. 15.

Vehicle owners can reach Volvo at (800) 458-1552.
