Volvo Recalls S80, XC70 and XC60 Vehicles

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Volvo is recalling MY 2008-2010 S80, MY 2009-2010 XC70 and MY 2010 XC60 vehicles because of a central electronic module software problem that could lead to vehicle stalling.

The recall, set to begin around Sept. 30, affects nearly 12,000 vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Under certain conditions, the software within the central electronic module may not send a signal to the fuel pump electronic module. This missing signal to the PEM inhibits the start of the fuel pump. Even if the driver successfully starts the engine because of residual pressure in the fuel system, the engine could still stall after a short distance -- thus, posing a safety hazard.

To resolve the problem, dealers will download software to the vehicles' CEM free of charge. The recall is expected to begin around Sept. 30.

Vehicle owners can reach Volvo at (800) 458-1552.
