Massachusetts Bill Seeks Cell Phone Restrictions

BOSTON --- The Massachusetts House on Jan. 23 passed a bill that would impose fines for adult drivers who make cell phone calls without a hands-free device. The bill would also ban drivers under 18 from making cellphone calls, texting or e-mailing, the Boston Globe reported.
However, the Senate has not yet considered the legislation. Already, a number of state senators have argued that law enforcement officers already have discretion to ticket distracted drivers.
Five states and the District of Columbia have passed hands-free requirements for cell phone usage behind the wheel.
