At the End of Route 66

The iconic Route 66 finds its endpoint in the beach sands of Santa Monica, Calif., where last week, folks were taking an up-close look at greener versions of the cars that transported previous generations along that highway across America's heartland to the blue sea of the Pacific Ocean.

Plugging into the Power

As more OEMs ready electric vehicles to launch, including GM' s Volt and Nissan's Leaf, much needs to happen before widescale use of EVs is feasible. The recent Plug-In 2009 coference in Long Beach, Calif., explored the possibilities and the considerable challenges. Commerical fleet use of EVs presents an additional set of obstacles.
