April 1996 - 29th Annual Conference

Date: April 1996
Location:

The following is an article that appeared in the May 1996 issue of Automotive Fleet.

The Automotive Fleet & Leasing Association (AFLA) kicked off its convention with Alex Taylor III of Fortune magazine's Board of Editors who discussed "What's Right About Detroit-Where Does it Need Help?" Taylor said the U.S. auto industry's strengths were small cars, light trucks, continuous improvement, and ethics.

From there, several general sessions were held over the next two days, including a panel on "What's New in Fuel Management Networks?" hosted by Charles Parker, Bobit Publishing Co., which included representatives from Louis Dreyfus Energy Co., Wright Express, Fuelman/GASCARD, Voyager, PHH Vehicle Management Services, International Automated Energy Systems, and Petroleum Source & Systems Group, who spoke on the services offered by their companies.

Another seminar, "Our Economic Future in an Election Year," was hosted by Joan Schneider of Bank of America Securities, Inc., and examined the possibility of the Federal Reserve Board tightening interest rates, the impact of the proposed flat tax, and an economic forecast on real GNP growth and CPI inflation through the fourth quarter 1997.
