The following is an article that appeared in the June 1981 issue of Automotive Fleet.

The Automotive Fleet & Leasing Association's 13^th Annual meeting was marked by a record turnout in Toronto, May 8-10. Convention goers listened to speakers stress the fundamentals and the theme, "Back to the Basics," was geared to coping with the difficult and fast changing times in the fleet and lease industry.

Friday's activities were highlighted by the President's Reception, sponsored by ADESCO and Auto Driveaway and a banquet hosted by Toyota, during which the founders and past presidents of AFLA were honored. The organization held its first meeting in Toronto in 1969. On hand were founders Ed Bobit of Automotive Fleet, Don Fenton of Long Chevrolet, Bob McGarvey of Beach City Chevrolet, Jack Rosenbaum of Legum Chevrolet, and Mark Rosenstock of Dale Oldsmobile. Earl Stewart of All Vehicle Leasing could not make the meeting and Woody Woodard is deceased.

Keynoting the convention was Fran Hazelroth, director of fleet sales for Chrysler Corporation. Hazelroth opened his talk with an overview of the North American automobile industry. He said the manufacturers are getting back to the basics of fuel economy, value and quality to improve and market their products. The problem in dealing with the market today is coping with the rapidity of the changes in consumer demand. "As a result of the gas crisis," Hazelroth said, "buying habits changed immediately."
